The Emerging Technologies Branch of the Leidos Innovations Center is currently looking for a** **Mechanical Engineer Intern** **to work in our San Diego, California office. We are seeking a broadly trained and highly motivated engineer for advanced technology research and development programs focused on developing and testing novel materials, prototype instrument development, integration, analysis, testing, and optimizations for a range of applications. This is a highly dynamic and integrative environment in which talented and creative employees can thrive working on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects.** **Primary Responsibilities.** **Work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team consisting of biologists, chemists, mathematicians, statisticians, and engineers** **Collaborate with engineers and scientists to automate laboratory processes using commercial and custom hardware in support of government-funded efforts for novel applications** **Quickly adapt to evolving research needs, willingness to learn new techniques, and rapidly acquire new knowledge and stay informed on emerging technologies** **Candidates should follow sound engineering practices, maintain effective documentation of activities and analyses, and be able to effectively communicate findings and reasoning with other team members** **Basic Qualifications.** **Enrolled in BS degree in a relevant area of study and working towards a degree in Engineering, or related field at an accredited college/university.** **U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance** **Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with people from diverse areas and disciplines** **Self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment** **Great work ethic and an enthusiasm for problem-solving and innovative thinking and the ability to approach and solve technical challenges** **Strong organizational and time management skills** **Preferred Qualifications.** **One year of technical experience (technical experience obtained through schooling can be counted towards total years of experience)** **Experience using engineering software tools like CAD and SolidWorks** **Prior involvement in relevant design projects (through either coursework of extracurricular activities)** **Existing experience developing and testing materials for structural and functional applications** **Experience testing mechanical properties of materials** **Experience with computer modeling and simulation** **Possess US government Security Clearance** **Original Posting:** May 8, 2025 For U.S. Positions: While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above. **Pay Range:** Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
