Job Description

MEMCO is hiring for Commercial Carpenters/Skilled Workers in North Charleston, SC!!

As an experienced Commercial Carpenter/Skilled Worker , you will play a crucial role in the construction industry by assembling and dismantling scaffolding structures for various commercial projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety, stability, and integrity of scaffolds used on construction sites, providing a secure platform for workers to perform their tasks efficiently and safely.

  • Schedule: Mon - Fri 7am - 5pm; OT available
  • Pay: $19- $23/hr; based on experience

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Scaffold Assembly and Dismantling: Construct and dismantle scaffolding systems according to blueprints, specifications, and safety regulations. This includes selecting and fitting scaffold components, such as tubes, couplers, boards, and ladders, to create sturdy and stable structures.
  2. Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety standards and regulations set by relevant authorities (e.g., OSHA). Conduct regular inspections of scaffolds to identify and address potential hazards or deficiencies. Take proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  3. Team Collaboration: Work closely with construction teams, supervisors, and other tradespeople to coordinate scaffold installation and removal efficiently. Communicate effectively to understand project requirements and timelines, contributing to the overall success of commercial construction projects.
  4. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspection of scaffold components and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition. Report any defects or malfunctions promptly and assist in repairing or replacing components as needed.
  5. Problem Solving: Troubleshoot issues related to scaffold assembly, stability, or safety, employing critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills to find effective solutions. Adapt quickly to changing project requirements and unforeseen challenges while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  6. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of scaffold assembly, inspections, and maintenance activities. Complete required paperwork and documentation to track project progress, compliance with regulations, and equipment usage.

Qualifications:

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment testing
  • Must have own harness
  • Previous experience in scaffold assembly and construction, preferably in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of scaffold components, systems, and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Relevant certifications or training in scaffold building and safety practices (e.g., OSHA 10/30-hour Construction Safety Certification, Scaffold Builder Certification) may be required or preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily takes place outdoors on construction sites, often at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • May involve lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, and working in confined spaces.
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, harnesses, and safety goggles.
  • May involve irregular hours and overtime work to meet project deadlines.
  • MUST be willing to travel to multiple job sites, if needed.

A pre-employment drug screen will be required for this position
