Job Description

Construction Trades Staffing is seeking several skilled and dedicated Horizontal Drill Operator to join a dynamic team in Buffalo, NY. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and overseeing horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment for various utility installation projects, including pipelines, cables, and other underground systems. As a Horizontal Drill Operator, you will work closely with project managers and crew members to ensure successful project execution while adhering to safety standards and industry regulations. You will need to demonstrate exceptional technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a strong understanding of drilling techniques, equipment operation, and the ability to interpret project plans and specifications accurately. You will also be expected to perform routine maintenance on the equipment, troubleshoot issues, and assist in training crew members when necessary. Responsibilities:

  • Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment and machinery effectively and safely.
  • Interpret project plans and specifications to determine the drilling path and requirements.
  • Monitor drilling operations to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the drilling process in a timely manner.
  • Train and mentor crew members on safe operating procedures and effective drilling techniques.
  • Collaborate with project managers and team members to ensure project timelines and goals are met successfully.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required.
  • Strong understanding of HDD technology and techniques, including geology and soil conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and maps accurately.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Commitment to safety practices and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
