About the Indiana Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP):
The Indiana Office of Administrative Law Proceedings (OALP) was established as a new state agency in 2020 to provide a central and independent hearings process for administrative cases with different Indiana State agencies. OALP has a staff of administrative law judges (ALJs) who hear disputes between certain state agencies and persons aggrieved by that agency’s action, as well as a team of Legal Assistants (LAs) who assist our ALJs with case management and data. Some of the state agencies for which OALP hears cases include the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), the Department of Child Services (DCS), and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). Role Overview :
The Office of Administration Law Proceedings is seeking a Communications Intern to join our agency in summer 2025. This internship is for a current undergraduate student with a major or minor in communications, marketing, or a related field. The intern would work on projects related to OALP’s LinkedIn page, website, or other social media/virtual presence. The intern might also help with branding and marketing projects such as an OALP brochure, newsletter, or other promotional material. This internship would be an opportunity to learn about communications and marketing within the state government context.
Salary Statement :
The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.
A Day in the Life:
As a Communications Intern for the Office of Administrative Law Proceedings, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience with:
Maintaining content on the agency's website and social media outlets.
Assisting with communication media to increase target audience message awareness for specific agency initiatives.
Assist with the development, production, and editing of videos.
Researching and drafting press releases, technical advisories, agency newsletters, feature articles, PowerPoint presentations, and collateral materials/brochures addressing specific topics, programs, and agency initiatives.
Assisting with public communication, including editing and proofreading presentation materials, reports, letters, articles, social media and website content to ensure consistent, high-quality messages.
Supporting with evaluating current communication strategies and materials to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Answering public inquiries via phone, email, and mail within the direction of staff counsel or administrative law judge.
