Position Summary

Join Our Team as a Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate!

Are you passionate about creating a safer and more inclusive campus environment? As a Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate (Student Services Professional III) , you'll lead and coordinate efforts to prevent gender-based violence and support survivors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prevention Education & Outreach: Lead education and outreach efforts on topics such as affirmative consent, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and bystander intervention.
  • Curriculum Development: Create and implement evidence-based prevention strategies, presentations, seminars, and programs in collaboration with campus and community partners.
  • Support & Advocacy: Serve as a confidential advocate, providing sustained support and resources to students and employees who are victims/survivors of sexual violence.
  • Intersectional Approach: Utilize an intersectional social justice and public health approach to address and prevent violence.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional nights and weekend work but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity (SACD) provides students with the rich and distinctive experience that is the hallmark of an SDSU education. SACD creates diverse communities and new cultural experiences that inspire students to break down barriers and transform lives, and their guidance and support help them navigate academic, personal and professional success to emerge as dynamic and global leaders of tomorrow.


Additionally, the position will work closely with The Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (CPHD).

Education and Experience



Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.



Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.



Key Qualifications

  • Completion, or commitment to complete within six months of hire, a training program in the counseling of sexual assault victims, issued by a counseling center or rape crisis center that meets the criteria outlined in Section 13837 of the California Penal Code. The training program must provide at least 40 hours of training under the supervision of an individual qualified as a psychotherapist or counselor. Thorough knowledge of health education theories, research, and program assessment.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of college-aged student health education programs.
  • One year of counseling or advocacy experience, at least six months of which is in rape crisis counseling is preferred.
  • Master's degree in social work, public health, counseling or related field is not required, but is preferred.


Compensation and Benefits



Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,540 per month.


Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month.
