Under direction of the Information Technology Manager (ITM) I within Virtual Desktop & GAL Support Services (VDS), the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) II provides the Office of Technology Services (OTech) and customer departments with expert level analytical and technical assistance for cloud-based services subscribed by OTech on behalf of the State.

The ITS II must be an expert within O365 environment administration, network protocols, email synchronization of mobile devices, Active Directory designs and concepts, anti-spam and anti-virus policy creation, SharePoint administration, Citrix user administration troubleshooting and problem resolution diagnostics.

The ITS II will work closely with the OTech Service Desk, O365 Shared customers, OTech Network Administrators, and the O365 service provider to coordinate and resolve the difficult first- and second-line support calls.  The incumbent will work with the various service providers to perform operational and infrastructure more department-wide tasks related to software upgrades, patches, and implementation of new products associated with the O365 and Citrix environments.  Also, the incumbent will work with the VDS lead and manager to ensure that customers are notified of any changes or maintenance activities that may affect the services.  

Telework
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule within California based on departmental policy and operational needs. The telework policy is subject to change depending on business needs, and/or reporting to the work site may be required with minimal notification given. Pursuant to Executive Order, effective July 1, 2025, employees in this position will be required to report to the work site a minimum of two (2) days per week, increasing to four (4) days per week effective July 1, 2026. The specific on-site days will be determined by the department based on operational requirements.

CA Residency:

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, upon a job offer, candidates must provide proof of residence in California prior to their appointment becoming effective, or the offer may be rescinded.

  • Supports a work environment that functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • May require the ability to be contacted by the data center any time, day or night, and on weekends and holidays and call-backs are probable.
  • Occasional travel is required to perform assigned duties, attend training, and provide customer support.
  • May be required to carry a mobile device with remote access from home.
  • Consistent good attendance and punctuality in the workplace is required to support the Branch and Division to achieve its mission.
  • Must pass a fingerprint background criminal record check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ) REQUIRED

  1. Please provide details of your technical and/or lead experience and include specific examples as it relates to providing lead technical support over infrastructure and/or platform technologies (i.e. Citrix, O365 SMTP, etc.).

  2. Describe your background, knowledge, and experience with working on a team that supports the infrastructure that houses mission critical applications.  Please provide details of your roles and responsibilities, and the skill sets you possess that contributed to the success of the team.

  3. Describe your background, experience, education, and/or training with SMTP, O365 and your ability to serve as a subject matter expert, lead person to staff and trusted advisor to management.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Possess 1+ years of expert level experience in Microsoft O365 tenant, AAD.
  • Possess 2+ years of expert level experience in Microsoft Active Directory 2012 or above.
  • Possess 2+ years of expert level experience in Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Possess 1+ years of expert level experience in Citrix user administration.
  • Possess 1+ years of expert level experience in Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange experience in creating policy rules and reports.
  • Knowledge of Legal Archive and E-Discovery policy creation and processes.
  • Knowledge of the most current server components, concepts, security, and maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate and work productively with technical staff, vendors, OTech management, and OTech customers in a professional consulting role.
  • Possess knowledge of ITIL concepts and the IT Service Support and IT Service Delivery functions in an ITSM environment.
