Job Description and Duties

This is a 12-month limited term position which may be extended, cancelled, or made permanent at any time.

If becoming permanent, the selected candidate must be eligible for a permanent appointment at the time of the LT appointment or at the time of the conversion.


This position may be filled at one of the following State Fund locations: Fresno, Glendale, Pleasanton, Redding, Riverside, Rohnert Park or Vacaville.

The Claims Processing Center - Medical Reimbursement Analysis Unit has an immediate opening for a Vendor Management Specialist at the Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster level. This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated individual with strong analytical and communication skills to maintain relationships with outside vendors who support the Bill Review operation and troubleshoot bill payment issues.

Preferably, the successful candidate will have experience with State Fund internal and vendor technology (e.g. SmartAdvisor, Jopari, and P2P), be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and have an understanding of Claims Processing Center operations. The position will primarily allow the selected candidate to work from home but there will be occasional travel to meet with project team members. Additionally, the position will be a limited-term appointment for up to 24 months but may become permanent with management approval.

The following is a brief outline of the duties of the Vendor Management Specialist as envisioned by the management team:

  • Managing vendor relationships and contracts with various companies that provide services and systems that are integrated into State Fund medical bill payment processes, with emphasis on resolving billing issues and improving efficiency
  • Coordinating the development, implementation, and monitoring of work processes to manage and resolve medical bill
  • reimbursement issues
  • Performing testing and troubleshooting for the maintenance of the bill review software application including Capstone rule creation and revision
  • Serving as a Subject Matter Expert on projects which require collaboration with CPC and business partners

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.
