Job Description

They are seeking a strategic and hands-on Senior Manager, Internal Communications to strengthen messaging, employee engagement, and organizational alignment across all levels of the company.

The Senior Manager, Internal Communications will lead the development and delivery of clear, compelling, and consistent communications for a dynamic, large-scale organization. This role will support executive communications, deliver messaging across corporate and non-corporate audiences, and play a critical role in ensuring employees feel informed, connected, and engaged.

This is a high-visibility role that partners closely with HR, Operations, Corporate Affairs, Leadership, and regional teams. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who can adapt messaging for diverse audiences and thrives in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Senior Manager, Internal Communications Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and execute internal communications strategies that connect employees to company priorities, culture, and leadership.

  • Create messaging frameworks tailored to corporate staff, operations teams, and frontline/non-corporate employee groups.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on communications planning and change management.

Content Creation & Messaging

  • Write and edit high-quality content including emails, intranet posts, leadership messages, town hall materials, FAQs, storytelling pieces, and campaign content.

  • Support executive communications, including speechwriting, presentations, and talk tracks.

  • Ensure consistency of tone, brand voice, and messaging across all channels.

Employee Engagement & Channels

  • Manage internal communications channels such as intranet, newsletters, digital signage, video content, and live employee meetings.

  • Partner with HR and Operations to ensure messaging reaches deskless and distributed teams effectively.

  • Develop creative communication campaigns to support culture-building, engagement, and major company initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Marketing, PR, HR, DEI, and Operations teams to ensure alignment and clarity across internal and external messaging.

  • Support communication needs around organizational changes, policy updates, employee initiatives, and business milestones.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Track campaign performance, employee engagement, and channel effectiveness.

  • Use analytics and feedback to optimize communication approaches and improve reach to both corporate and non-corporate employees.

Senior Manager, Internal Communications Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in internal communications, employee communications, corporate communications, or related fields.

  • Experience communicating with both corporate and non-corporate/frontline employee groups required.

  • Proven ability to translate complex information into clear, approachable messaging.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling capabilities with an ability to adapt tone for different audiences.

  • Experience supporting executive leaders and crafting leadership communications.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in a large, matrixed, global, or Fortune 500 organization strongly preferred.

  • Comfortable working onsite in downtown Chicago 3 days per week .
