**Job Title: Senior Financial Consultant**
**Reports To:** Managing Director, Financial Consulting
**Status:** Full-Time (40 hours/week), Exempt
**Salary:** $150,000 - $175,000 per year
**Location:** California, U.S. (Remote or Hybrid)

We are a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the production and preservation of affordable and sustainable homes for low-income Californians. Our Finance Consulting team is looking for a Senior Financial Consultant (SFC) who is passionate about making a difference in the housing sector. Unlike traditional financial advisors, our team views clients as long-term partners, focusing on building their capacity through coaching, mentoring, and collaborative problem-solving.
**Position Overview**
As a Senior Financial Consultant, you will play a crucial role in advising clients on financial strategies to optimize equity and bond or loan proceeds. You will assist in selecting equity investors and lenders, negotiating deal terms, preparing financial projections, and securing funding from a variety of competitive programs. Your expertise will help clients navigate complex financing options and avoid common pitfalls in the development process.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide expert financial consulting services to nonprofit and local government housing agencies.
- Advise clients on structuring and maximizing funding through various programs, including:
- Tax-Exempt Private Activity Mortgage Revenue and 501(c)(3) Bonds
- Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)
- State of California Housing and Community Development programs
- California Housing Finance Agency programs
- Local government funding sources
- USDA Rural Development programs
- HUD multifamily and public housing programs
- Conduct detailed analyses of project economics, tax implications, and regulatory considerations to develop innovative financing plans.
- Offer training and technical assistance to clients and partners on financing strategies and program requirements.
- Collaborate with the Housing Development Training Institute to design and deliver training sessions.
- Assist with basic office administrative functions as needed.
**Qualifications & Requirements**
We are looking for candidates who possess a blend of experience, knowledge, and skills in affordable multifamily housing development and financing. Ideal candidates will have:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in affordable multifamily housing development and financing.
- A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for up to one year of work experience.
- In-depth knowledge of multifamily financing techniques and resources, particularly the LIHTC program.
- Extensive hands-on experience with tax-exempt bonds and California HCD programs.
- Proficiency in proforma modeling and lender/investor negotiations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Proficiency with Apple computers and cloud-based tools (e.g., Salesforce, Google Drive) and advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
