Key Job Functions:
The Senior Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that supports the organization’s growth, mission delivery, and community impact. This includes brand management, media relations, content creation, digital strategy, and stakeholder engagement. This position leads the marketing team and collaborates cross functionally with internal departments and external partners to ensure aligned and impactful messaging.
A key focus of this role is driving student recruitment through advanced SEO strategies and compelling content creation that resonates with veterans, transitioning service members, and prospective students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop and implement integrated marketing strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Identify and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate marketing effectiveness.
Partner with the Chief Impact Officer and leadership team to refine brand positioning and outreach.
Brand, Communications, and Digital Media
Manage brand identity and ensure consistency across all platforms and campaigns.
Oversee creation of newsletters, annual reports, videos, email campaigns, and social media.
Ensure a high-performing website and digital presence that drives engagement, optimizes SEO, and supports student recruitment.
Develop and deploy content strategies (blogs, landing pages, videos, testimonials) that highlight program outcomes and speak directly to prospective students.
Monitor trends and adjust strategies using data-driven decision making.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
Lead media relations efforts to secure local and national press coverage.
Represent Workshops for Warriors at events and with strategic partners.
Support fundraising, donor communications, and event promotions with compelling content and messaging.
Team & Vendor Management
Supervise the marketing team and oversee contractors or agency partners.
Set clear goals, foster professional development, and support a culture of creativity and accountability.
Event & Program Marketing
Collaborate with departments on marketing initiatives for educational programs, donor events, and community outreach.
Ensure smooth execution and promotion of events including invitation design, guest communication, and media support.
Budget & Resource Management
Develop and manage the annual marketing budget.
Measure return on investment (ROI) for campaigns and initiatives.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Work Experience:
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (with or without an accommodation). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
Masters or MBA preferred
Minimum 5-7 years of director-level marketing experience with strategic and operational responsibility.
Experience in nonprofit, workforce development, education, or veteran services is highly desirable.
Veteran or military spouse preferred or demonstrated cultural competency working with military populations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced understanding and application of marketing strategy and integrated marketing communications.
Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
Strong understanding of digital marketing, content creation, and social media strategies.
Strong working ability of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Superior organizational skills including attention to detail and time management.
Ability to establish and nurture collaborative relationships at all levels, and identify needs and deliver solutions that achieve employee, team, and school goals and satisfaction.
Ownership & Drive— ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong follow-through and a focus on owning the outcome.
Ability to effectively partner with leadership and colleagues to ensure deadlines are met, while navigating multiple priorities and deliverables.

Important Notes
Position Details: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position (40+ hours/week).
Pay: This pay does not include any opportunity for incentive compensation and is only reflective of the base pay for this position.
The range of pay for this California-based position is $130,000 - $150,000 annually.
Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive Compensation is in addition to base compensation depending on performance.

Supervisory: Supervises an in-house marketing team and oversees relationships with outside marketing agencies.

The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 10-30lbs. Applications may include but are not limited to repetitive work using a computer keyboard, mouse and headphones while sitting and/or standing at an assigned work desk area.
Work Environment: The employee works in an office/administration building in an urban industrial neighborhood. Other areas within the school are mixed use such as classrooms, welding and machining areas.
Employee may have additional environmental hazards such as: chemical, electrical, flammable, or mechanical in nature.
