In this role you will:
  • Practice within the scope of practice as outlined by the New York State Office of the Professions.
  • Follow all New York Cancer and Blood Specialists policies and procedures.
  • Complete comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation according to the nursing process.
  • Maintain accurate, complete health care records.
  • Complete/adhere to all assigned continuing education and certification requirements as outlined in Nursing Policy: Certification and Continuing Education Requirements: Registered Nurse, Infusion
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Demonstrate the skill and knowledge to assess, identify, guide and support patient/family needs, concerns and problems, and knowledge to take appropriate action(s).
  • Manage the administration of chemotherapy, and non-chemotherapy agents intravenously and/or by injection as prescribed.
  • Prepare sterile medications while adhering to NIOSH standards for "safe handling" of cytotoxic agents.
  • Adhere to safety and scientifically accepted infection control practices and standards. Including but not limited to:
    • Follows hand washing protocols.
    • Practices aseptic technique.
    • Utilizes personal protective equipment, e.g. gloves,
    • Maintains proper disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Adheres to OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards
  • Evaluate patient responses to interventions in order to determine progress toward achieving expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to modify the nursing plan of care accordingly.
  • Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
  • Follow provider orders for ordering laboratory, radiology tests & follow up care
  • Actively participate in care coordination and survivorship planning including identifying the need for and ensures referral to supportive care and wellness services to improve patient outcomes
  • Provide patient education throughout the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Advocate for patients and their caregivers as indicated by patient conditions and responses.
  • Provide care that demonstrates sensitivity to client diversity and incorporates appropriate cultural practices.
We require:
  • Current registration with New York State Board of Nursing as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Attendance to all mandatory nursing meetings.
  • Supported by NYCBS voucher program. Completion of the following Oncology Nursing Society [ONS] certification
    • 1. Safe Handling Basics - Completion within 2 weeks of hire date
    • 2. ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course - Completion within 9 months of hire date
    • 3. Certification Oncology Certificated Nurse [OCN] - Application and Scheduled testing Date within 2 years of hire date

Salary up to $61 per hour.
