NEEDED: Phlebotomist

LOCATION(S):

• Fairfield VA Outpatient Clinic, 103 Bodin Circle, Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, CA 94535
• Mare Island VA Outpatient Clinic, 201 Walnut Avenue, Vallejo, CA 94592
• Martinez VA Outpatient Clinic, 150 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553

SCHEDULE: Regular working hours are typically 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday – Friday. However, there may be times when services are needed at the Martinez VA Campus (inpatient) on weekends and holidays from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current certificate by the State of California as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
• Have a minimum of one (1) year direct patient care experience performing venipunctures in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Shall have the knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently.

DUTIES:

• Verify patient identified by confirming two (2) patient identifiers, per VA policy (patient name, date of birth and/or social security number) prior to accepting or collecting specimens for processing or testing performing. Differences in patient identification will be reconciled and corrected before drawing blood or accepting patient samples.
• Perform venipuncture by following published Laboratory procedures.
• Collect adequate and properly labeled specimens.
• Properly determine current clinician orders in the computer, per Laboratory procedures.
• Perform waived and/or non-waived testing.
• Process specimens for testing and/or shipment to another laboratory for testing.
• Make contacts with patients, relatives, staff members, and coworkers in a concerned, compassionate and helpful manner.
• Promote a harmonious and cooperative working environment in their interaction with co-workers and supervisors.
