Tittle: Light Industrial - Machinist First
Location: Elk River, MN 55330
Duration: 3 Months (Temp-to-Hire)
Shift: Machinist Second shift is Monday-Thursday 2:55 PM-12:55 AM Primary Objective of Position:
- Employee will be responsible for setting-up, adjusting, and operating CNC machines ranging from mills to lathes which can also include 4+ axis machines.
- Our variety of parts at client requires the employee to have a wide range of tooling, fixturing, and programming knowledge.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Sets-up, runs and programs a variety of machines that include: CNC, production porting equipment, lathes, vertical mills.
- Runs multiple machines as required by process or as directed.
- Programming
- Ability to edit programs to control machining of parts by automatic machine tool operation-preferred but not required.
- Set-Up - most critical area of the job
- Performs complex set-ups on CNC machine tools.
- Performs set-ups on mills and lathes within an acceptable time frame.
- Documents set-up instructions on new product for future use.
- Identifies fixtures and tooling needed for new or existing products; documents and communicates any changes to machinists and support personnel.
- Familiarity with and understanding of programming formats involving combinations of operations such as profiling, boring, turning, drilling, threading, etc. to the machine's capacity.
- Operate and Adjust
- Produces products on CNC or manual machines to meet or exceed the requirements of department standards.
- Documents and communicates any inconsistencies or changes of standard run times to support personnel using process change forms.
- Troubleshoots processes to eliminate further issues.
- Care of Equipment and Cleanliness
- Exercises proper care of Tescom equipment.
- Process Improvement
- Supports the efforts of total quality and process improvement by recommending methods, equipment, techniques and other changes to improve machine shop operations through active participation in Process Improvement Teams or meetings.
- Proactive in documentation and control of processes in accordance with process change/control policy.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Performs work in a safe manner by following all safety rules, and insuring safety guards are in place on all machines.
- Quality Functions
- Performs quality functions according to Quality Assurance department processes.
- Performs inspections of products using a wide variety of inspection devices such as surface finish measuring, workmanship standards and handheld measuring equipment.
- Completes operator self-inspection and records data.
- Ability to use SPC data collection forms and any other supporting documentation required.
- Complies with SOP's and work instructions.
- Inspect GD&T.
- Quality and self-inspection will be trained.
- Apparent or Assigned
- Performs any other work as apparent or assigned.
Requirements: - Three (3) years machining experience in a CNC production environment machine shop.
- Post high school training in machine shop, blueprint reading, machine shop math, and advanced CNC programming and automated measuring equipment.
- Proficient with GD&T.
- Demonstrates a professional and positive attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of shop math.
- Demonstrated ability to write and verify programs to be run on CNC machines in an acceptable time frame.
- Physical ability to lift, carry or maneuver up to 40 pounds.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal/written) effectively with customers, suppliers and employees.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use computers and shop reference manuals.
- According to Government Regulations all employees in this job classification must be a US Citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: - Safety Training- 30 days to 60 days
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: - Exposed to manufacturing plant conditions and elements such as noise, dust, dirt, oil, grease, etc.
- PPE will be required which includes but is not limited to safety glasses, ear plugs, and safety shoes
- May be required to work at different workstations depending on production needs
