Key Responsibilities:
Must be Rescue Ready: uniform, pocket face mask/gloves, whistle, and rescue tube.
Continuous and active scanning of the pool.
Attend mandatory in-service training on a monthly basis.
Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.
Enforce aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.
Perform secondary duties only when not lifeguarding as requested (cleaning/sorting aquatics equipment, testing chemicals, tidying pool deck, and/or assisting instructors).
Maintain positive relationships with members and staff. Show members and colleagues respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with difficult situations.
Follow the directions of the YMCA Aquatic Supervisors in accordance with YMCA Aquatic Standards.
Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness. Responsible for recertification before expiration.
Must attain the YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days of hire.
Desired Skills & Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent desirable.
Minimum age – 16 years old. 16 and 17 year old Lifeguards need to comply with NYS working hours.
Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
Current Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
Demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and BLS/BFA/EO skills.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
