Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Instructional Technology, the Instructional Technology Support Consultant is a member of the Instructional Technology Group within the Department of Teaching and Learning. The Instructional Technology Group focuses on improving learning outcomes through the use of educational technology tools by providing direct faculty support, consultations and education for diverse courses across many disciplines serving thousands of global learners across their life-long learning journey. This position contributes to this goal by working closely within the group and department; with other school and university level groups including the online help desk, academic administration, information systems, the registrar and student services, academic technology, digital accessibility services; with external academic and instructional technology vendors; and by implementing, maintaining, and supporting Canvas and integrated applications along the course lifecycle.
Position Description
Provide general faculty support including but not limited to meeting directly with faculty to consult on their courses and apply appropriate site organization and planning; advising and applying technologies that support the faculty goals and course outcomes; meeting periodically throughout the term with faculty to troubleshoot problems and find solutions; replying to support inquires via email or ticketing systems.
Support Canvas and integrated technologies, including start- and end-of term set up and maintenance, working within third-party vendors? ticketing queues, meeting with vendors to talk about roadmaps and issues, and liaising with HUIT and fellow staff.
Training other staff within the teaching and learning team about instructional technology to increase the scope and adoption of teaching and learning tools
Create training and documentation that supports the DCE community of admins, faculty, and students in the pursuit of teaching and learning
Review and remediate course materials, content on the LMS, and integrated applications for accessibility compliance.
Consult on and assess needs of non-course sites and applications for administration
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent work experience
Three or more years of customer service or technical support experience in an instructional/academic technology environment
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Experience with Canvas preferred; or other Learning Management Systems: Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai, Google Classroom, etc
Comfort with web conference and team collaboration applications
Prior experience in online adult learning environment preferred
Basic fluency with web coding languages such as HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, CSS Frameworks, and JavaScript; or willingness to learn
Familiarity with Content Management Systems: Open Scholar (Drupal), Wordpress, Sharepoint, GoogleSites, and Atlassian Confluence Wiki; or willingness to learn
Familiarity with online accessibility policies and technology; or willingness to learn
Basic understanding of video streaming and delivery
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication
Ability to communicate complicated technology concepts to non-technical audiences
Ability to work independently and respond quickly to email and chat-based correspondence
