Job Description
Hanson Consulting Group is seeking a Games Systems Designer (Contract) to join our client’s team in the gaming industry! This role is hybrid/remote from San Diego or Irvine, CA.
In this role, you will collaborate with our client’s team to design captivating game systems that keep players entertained and rewarded for a multiplayer action RPG. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in designing and balancing complex game systems, designing with a focus on product goals, and understanding player motivations across different RPG genres. This is a great opportunity for someone who possesses strong math and data analysis skills, along with a love for spreadsheets and formulas.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the client’s team to own the design, implementation, and maintenance of progression, itemization, skill tree, and upgrade systems.
- Implement features in the Unreal Editor using Blueprints.
- Balance progression and itemization values, as well as guide moment-to-moment combat tuning for players and enemies.
- Generate documentation to clearly communicate ideas, goals, and work with production on feature breakdowns and planning.
- Work in strike teams, collaborating with UX Design, Engineers, QA, and other Game Designers to implement major features.
- Understand and ensure holistic synergy between all game systems and content.
Qualifications:
- Please upload a Portfolio in the "Cover Letter" or "Portfolio URL" section.
- 3+ years of experience in the Games Industry (supporting title Development, Release, or Live Ops).
- Strong technical experience with Unreal Engine and Blueprints in AAA game production.
- Experience working in a production environment and having shipped 1+ title(s) as a Game Designer.
- Excellent collaboration skills and understanding of how to give and receive feedback effectively.
- Experience building and maintaining spreadsheets/data tables using best practices.
- Proven experience in designing and balancing complex game systems.
- Experience designing for and playing games in the action and RPG genres.
- Strong communication skills and production sensibilities.
