The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor actively assists in and oversees the daily operations of the transportation shop, ensuring efficient and safe maintenance and repair of vehicles. The role involves supervising a small staff, handling inventory, and maintaining high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities of a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor:

Supervise and manage all Fleet Maintenance Operations:

  • Oversee daily shop activities and ensure smooth operations
  • Schedule and assign tasks to technicians and staff

Staff Supervision:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise shop personnel

Excellent Customer Service:

  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through quality service

Inventory and Supplies:

  • Manage inventory of parts and tools
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

Budget and Financial Management:

  • Monitor shop expenses and manage the budget
  • Prepare financial reports and track performance metrics

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair work on vehicles
  • Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards
  • Manage and renew all vehicle licensure and registration
  • Schedule all state inspections for the fleet
  • Complete estimates on vehicle damage and meet with outside appraisers as needed

Assistance in Managing Local Facility

Qualifications of a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Experience: Previous experience in a transportation or automotive repair shop, with supervisory experience preferred
  • Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or training in automotive repair is a plus
  • Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle maintenance, repair procedures, and shop management
