Role Summary

The Financial Planning Analyst II is responsible for developing solutions for complex financial analysis at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve financial planning activities to support cost saving goals and strategies.

Key Duties

  • Takes initiative to develop solutions and prepare financial analyses and reporting to support multiple business groups within Alaska Airlines.
  • Applies financial acumen and business knowledge to develop and improve complex models to support company activities (e.g., labor reports, line of business costs and productivity, cost and revenue forecasts, etc.).
  • Leads forecasting, cost control, budget preparation, variance research, business case preparation, and other ad hoc projects and analysis and makes recommendations to stakeholders and owners.
  • With limited direction from manager, works independently to innovate and problem solve, implement projects, provide insights, drive change and influence the organization.
  • Analyzes the financial performance data to draw business conclusions and proposes action plans to improve profitability, capital allocation and cash generation as well as corrective action plans as/if needed.
  • Acts as a core contributor to monthly closing process for divisions or corporate, including accruals, PO system management, invoice review and research, and data entry into relevant support databases/models.
  • Guides and mentors FP&A Analyst I's on the team to help develop skillset and strengthen team.
  • Develops, analyzes and reports on the financial strength of Alaska Airlines to create a forecast of the future, and providing periodic reports to management and other stakeholders to help shape the tactical and strategic planning of the company.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, investment banking or related area.
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in finance, accounting, economics or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Working knowledge of accounting/finance fundamentals.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, attention to detail, and analytical acumen for problem solving in daily activities and analysis.
  • Self-starter with the ability to set and balance priorities, work independently and take ownership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and databases in general, including experience with a variety of Excel's math functions and pivot tables.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills and an ability to explain complex concepts to division leadership.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary Range

$72,600 - $108,800 / year

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
