Role Overview:
As the Director of Horticulture, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the horticultural operations of our renowned botanic garden. This position requires a blend of horticultural expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for creating beautiful and meaningful garden displays. You will lead a dedicated team and manage diverse plant collections across a 200-acre property, ensuring our gardens thrive and inspire.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of 12 full-time horticulture staff, temporary gardeners, interns, and volunteers. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Garden Management: Oversee all aspects of plant collections, gardens, conservatories, and growing facilities. Ensure the maintenance and development of diverse garden landscapes.
Budget & Planning: Manage the Horticulture Department's budget, coordinate cross-departmental activities, and handle capital projects and seasonal operations.
Horticultural Design: Provide creative vision for garden displays, implement sustainable practices, and ensure high standards in plant care and collection management.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Advancement and Marketing, to support fundraising initiatives, promote our brand, and enhance guest experiences.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure safety protocols are followed, report any issues promptly, and comply with relevant regulations and policies.
Desired Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Horticulture or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years in horticulture, garden management, or landscape maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Skills: Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and plant management software. Experience with sustainable horticulture practices and construction management is a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Must be comfortable with physical tasks and using communication equipment.
Work Schedule:
This full-time, salaried position typically follows a Monday-Friday schedule, with some flexibility for weekends or evenings as needed. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, including event management.
