DESCRIPTION:
The Village of Glenview, located in northeast Illinois, is seeking a temporary summer Development Center Intern. The Village of Glenview’s internship program is geared toward college students seeking to supplement their academic training and expand their professional knowledge and skills in the municipal and building code enforcement and the permitting processes.
The primary purpose of this position is to support Village staff in permitting construction projects and enforcement of the Village codes and regulations. This position is responsible for responding to the public, providing customer service, writing reports, data entry, resolving general inquires, and performing analysis and other related duties and projects as assigned.
The intern will receive direction, guidance, and mentoring from technical and management staff within the Inspectional Services Division of the Community Development Department and will report to the Development Center Manager.
The ideal candidate will have a high school degree or equivalent and be currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in building science, construction management, Engineering, Public Administration or closely aligned field.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to public service, and should be an energetic, self-starter who can thrive in a team environment.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to prepare and interpret reports using various computerized electronic media (e.g., MS Office, web-based programs, internet, etc.).
Candidates must demonstrate organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task. Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and LAMA software is a plus.
Outdoor site visits may be required.
Any internship offer is contingent upon the candidate’s successful completion of a background check, medical, and drug screening.
This position is for 32 to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, May 2025 through August 2025 (exact dates can be flexible with the candidate’s school schedule).
