Duties
Criminalist I:
- This is an entry-level position where the employee performs technical work in the scientific analysis of biological fluids and alcoholic beverages. An employee in this position participates in a formal and on-the-job training program. Work is performed under immediate supervision.
Criminalist II:
- This is a responsible professional and technical position. Work includes performing complex and technical work in the scientific analysis of biological fluids and alcoholic beverage samples. The employee may assist in the training of other criminalists and laboratory technicians. Work is performed under general supervision of a superior who makes assignments and provides advice and assistance in complex work methods; however, the employee is expected to work with considerable independence within the framework of established policies and procedures.
Criminalist III:
- This is a very responsible professional and technical position. Work includes performing complex and technical work in the scientific analysis of biological fluids and alcoholic beverage samples. The employee also serves as a lead worker by training other criminalists and laboratory technicians. Work includes preparing reports, developing procedures for the laboratory, testifying in court and instructing others about the collection and analysis of evidence. Work is performed with considerable independence within the framework of established policies and procedures. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Requirements
Final selection may be based upon several factors, e.g., results of an oral
interview, written examination or exercise, review of past work performance, performance evaluations,
and/or candidate’s possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed necessary for successful
performance in the job.
