Job Description

Join a thriving non-profit that provides leadership and resources to over 50 organizations deeply committed to social justice, equity, and political activism. The organization is at a pivotal moment of growth, and is elevating people operations by creating a new role: Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO). Reporting directly to the Executive Director/CEO of this $64 million organization, the CPCO will lead the people function for our 30 core employees and the more than 300 located across the country in the organizations served. These organizations exist to change the world.

The CPCO will lead the People and Culture team, which includes a Director of People and Culture and a Generalist, ensuring alignment between organizational strategy and employee experience. In this role, you’ll operate both strategically and tactically, guiding HR initiatives while producing work product that contributes to the daily success of the organization.

If you have not yet held an executive-level role but are an experienced HR leader at the Director or VP level, this is your logical next step. 

What you will do:

  • HR Strategy & Leadership : Develop and implement people strategies that align with the organization's objectives and support its growth.
  • Employee Experience : Foster a culture of appreciation, belonging, and radical humanity, focusing on practice and continuous learning.
  • HR Operations : Oversee recruitment, retention, onboarding, and professional development, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Team Leadership : Mentor and develop the People and Culture team, fostering a solutions-focused, growth-oriented environment.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion : Drive initiatives that promote inclusivity and diversity across all areas of the organization.
  • Compliance : Ensure compliance with labor laws, addressing challenges as they arise.

What we are looking for :

  • 8+ years in senior HR roles in a non-profit, preferably a C3 or C4.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Proven experience with California labor laws and regulations
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a high-performing HR team
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (we use ADP Workforce Now)
  • Dedication to social justice and equity
