Overview

Ansible Government Solutions, LLC (Ansible) is currently recruiting Phlebotomists to support the Victoria VA Clinic located at 1908 North Laurent Street Suite 150, Victoria, TX 77901. This is for inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy services. The shift schedule is typically Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts anywhere from 4:00am-5:00pm and including weekends. Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture by following published Laboratory procedures.
  • Perform urine collection by following published Laboratory procedures.
  • Collect adequate and properly labeled specimens.
  • Properly determine current clinician orders in the computer, per Laboratory procedures. 
  • Pulling lab orders out of the computer. 
  • Perform waived and/or non-waived testing. 
  • Process specimens for testing and/or shipment to another laboratory for testing. 
  • Make contacts with patients, relatives, staff members, and coworkers in a concerned, compassionate, helpful manner.
  • Promote a harmonious and cooperative working environment in their interaction with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Follow all South Texas Health Care System guidelines and VA policies.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies and rotates stock as needed to ensure supplies are used according to expiration dates.
  • Uses knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic technique, and phlebotomy material selection (i.e., vacutainer, syringe, butterfly).
  • Uses judgment in selection of phlebotomy site based upon the patient's condition, age group, and type of test to be performed.
  • Prepares phlebotomy site for proper specimen collection, based upon knowledge of blood specimen types, request forms, anticoagulants and transport conditions testing procedures.
  • Conveys to the patient the intention of performing a phlebotomy while showing understanding and empathy for the patient's condition.
  • Complete training for the Federal Drug Workforce Program and collect specimens and fill out required forms.
  • Collect and observe COVID 19 specimen collections (Nasopharyngeal, Oropharyngeal, Nasal Mid-Turbinate, Anterior nares, Nasopharyngeal aspirate/wash, saliva) as detailed in request.
  • Performs glucose tolerance testing by administering pretest substances and drawing blood at specific time intervals.
  • Contact Medical Staff in handling patients in cases of fainting, convulsions, and illness.
  • Follows universal precautions, and infection prevention and control guidelines in the performance of all procedures, wears task appropriate PPE, disposes of needles and contaminated waste, and patient isolation requirements in the performance of all procedures.
  • Follows proper procedures in the storage and disposal of needles and syringes.
  • Assists in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy Room at the end of the shift.
  • Receives specimens and accompanying request forms for any of the tests that can be performed and checks each for proper identification.
  • Accessions orders by use of computer system.
  • Clearly labels specimens after drawing with patient's name, identification number (SSN), phlebotomist's initials, collection time, and date as required.
  • Files results of completed laboratory tests.
  • Capable of reading Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adhering them to the current laboratory process.
  • Clearly communicate the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, e.g. certification program, ASCP, AMT, AMCA, etc.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in direct patient care performing venipunctures, covid swabbing, and Federal Workforce Drug testing in a clinic or hospital setting
  • No sponsorship available 

All candidates must be able to:

  • Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Lift up to 20 lbs
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
