Job Title: REMOTE ROLE - Certified Medical Coder – Inpatient

Department: Medical Records

Location: Bronx, NY

Work Arrangement: Hybrid — 1–2 weeks onsite training, then fully remote

Hours: 40 hours/week | 8 hours/day | Monday–Friday

Pay Rate: $33/hr (W2)

Job Overview

A healthcare organization in the Bronx is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Coder with strong inpatient and outpatient/ED coding expertise to support its Medical Records Department. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in acute care coding and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately perform inpatient and emergency department medical coding in an acute care setting

  • Utilize ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT-4, MS Word, Excel, and encoder software

  • Apply correct coding guidelines, payer rules, and federal billing regulations

  • Research and resolve coding-related issues as needed

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes

  • Efficiently use the 3M/HDS coding application

  • Provide coding training support when needed

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of medical coding experience

  • Proficiency in ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT-4 , and standard coding tools

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word and Excel

  • Prior EHR experience (EPIC required)

  • Prior 3M encoder experience required

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision

Education & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • AHIMA/AAPC certification such as CCS, CPC, RHIA, RHIT , or equivalent

  • CCS or CPC required ; dual certification preferred

Additional Notes

  • Requires both inpatient and outpatient/ED coding experience

  • Onsite training schedule is flexible per hiring team
