QUALIFICATIONS: Education - The Biomedical Research Associate shall have at a minimum a Master’s degree in basic biomedical research field (to include, but not limited to biology, chemistry, zoology, microbiology) or a minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in laboratory research. A fluent understanding of the English language and shall read, write and speak English needed for scientific reporting of data in oral presentations and written manuscripts.
General Requirements - The individual shall have a fluent understanding of the English language and shall read, write and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all parties and other health care providers
- The individual shall possess knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the labor (i.e., medical terminology, basic computer skills, customer service expectations, telephone etiquette, and basic typing).
- The individual shall be capable of meeting the physical demands of the position as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS). In most cases, the contract personnel may be asked to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time. However, the PWS may describe other physical demands such as lifting a specified weight or other physical activity.
- The individual shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
- The individual must be willing to work with human specimens and animal models and adhere to all regulatory requirements associated with human study protections and laboratory animal care and use.
Licensure/Registration/Certification EXPERIENCE: - Experience submitting protocols for Institutional Review Board or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee approval. A minimum 2 years of experience working with clinical specimen collection, using animal models and performance of molecular biology techniques, radioimmunoassay, immunohistochemistry, histology, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, flow cytometry, or cell culture.
- At least 7 years’ experience in executing clinical and translational research studies. Demonstrate laboratory research experience or work on clinical studies to include data collection and analyses. Demonstrate research experience in conducting complex biomedical studies in the areas of physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, or biochemistry or executing specimen collection and handling for clinical trials experiments.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in performing basic laboratory procedures to include but not limited to preparing chemical reagents, processing biological samples and specimens, data recording, experiment record keeping. A minimum of 10 years of experience in laboratory techniques including human specimen processing, animal model surgical experience, molecular biology DNA analyses, physiological monitoring, radioimmunoassay, biochemical assessments, hormone measurements, and data analysis for presentation in scientific forums.
Understanding of methodology and design for research: - A minimum of 7 years of experience with laboratory bench-work and in human studies, animal studies, radioimmunoassay’s, ELISAs, and molecular methods.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience with preparing data summaries and quality control lab tests and with performing data analyses and preparing figures and reports for national scientific presentations and grant reports.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience with performing data entry and graphics generation for scientific presentations to include setting up data spreadsheets for collaborative research partners to access jointly and maintaining laboratory records in accordance with accreditation standards.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with computers and related software to include word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, statistical applications and intranet and internet connections and applications.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/TASKS: - Biomedical Research Associate shall provide input in the execution of in vivo and in vitro experiments to fulfill requirements of grant and electrolyte balance testing done by the Research Pharmacology Section, Command approved Tripler Army Medical Center investigative studies for a variety of projects supported by the Department of Clinical Investigation.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall meet with the senior Department of Clinical Investigation Lab Manager weekly to review assay laboratory and experiment results and data entry.
- Biomedical Research Associate provide input in experiments and other physiological, pharmacological assays, human specimen collection and data collection and analyses to assure the meeting of research grant objectives and deadlines.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall gather data and execute clinical investigation study protocols including collection and preparation of specimens.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall administer drug doses to research animals as specified in research protocols.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall provide data as specified in study protocols that may require testing of devices or executing biomedical assays to include ELISAs, spectrophotometric assays, Western blots, Southern blots, PCR, HPLC, RNA/DNA extractions, radioimmunoassay, receptor quantitation with receptor binding assessments and/or quantification of mRNA with RT-PCR.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall prepare and verify quality control reagents used in a variety of biomedical assays to include ELISAs, spectrophotometric assays, Western blots, Southern blots, PCR, HPLC, RNA/DNA extractions, radioimmunoassay.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall prepare data summaries and research progress reports as well as preparation of data presentations and manuscript preparation.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall update standard operating procedures as needed to keep laboratory procedures current and at the forefront of technology.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall enroll study participants and extract chart review data or administration of surveys.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall track and maintain equipment and supplies for specific studies.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall (1) comply with applicable Tripler Army Medical Center written policies, procedures, and Army Regulations, (b) comply with applicable JC standards, (c) and comply with installation rules and regulations concerning fire, safety, sanitation, security and possession of firearms and other lethal weapons.
- Biomedical Research Associate shall attend training, meetings, conferences, etc. as required by Department of Clinical Investigation.
