Ashland Theological Seminary ( ATS ) is a graduate division of Ashland University, located in Ashland, Ohio. The position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Practical Theology housed in the Seminary's department of Practical Theology. This nine (9) month position begins on August 18, 2025. Ashland Theological Seminary is a seminary founded upon the Brethren tradition. We are ecumenical in nature drawing from various Christian faith traditions. Agreement with the Seminary's Statement of Faith, Mission, Strategic Vision, Collegial Faculty Covenant, Code of Institutional Values and Conduct, and Ethos statement is required.

  • Faculty deliver courses in multiple formats, including in-person, hybrid and/or intensive courses and online.
  • Duties include participation in all relevant Seminary student and faculty academic activities, willingness to work at multiple ATS Centers, and teach evening, weekend, and online courses as needed.
  • The person in this role is expected to represent the Seminary and engage in community activities that promote theological education and Christian practices.
  • Faculty will teach and advise students in undergraduate, core, and advanced Practical Theology courses, provide academic oversight of students, participate in scholarly and professional development activities, serve on departmental and Seminary committees, and work collegially with Seminary faculty, local stakeholders.
  • Model academic leadership within the Department of Practical Theology.
  • The successful candidate will have experience/skills in some or all of the following areas: homiletics, preaching, pastoral care, age-level ministries, worship, leadership, evangelism, and disciple-making.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to support and respect the Brethren Church heritage, commit to theological education delivered from a Christ-centered worldview, express a strong commitment to a servant-leadership model, and a demonstrated ability to succeed in this role.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Practical Theology
  • A record of successful experience in higher education and/or other educational environments (experience teaching in non-traditional formats, blended and/or online courses preferable)
  • A track record as a collaborative, servant-leader with outstanding written, oral and interpersonal skills
