Arbitration Specialist

Based in Rocky Hill, CT

Anticipated Start Date: November 2024

AFT Connecticut has an opening for an Arbitration Specialist who is intelligent, self-motivated, and willing to work hard for social justice and the labor movement. This position will support local unions with grievance arbitrations, collective bargaining, workshops, and related work as directed by the AFT Connecticut President.

The position will be based in Rocky Hill Connecticut. Experience with private sector unions is a plus.

Qualifications/Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Experience in arbitration, contract administration, or negotiation
  • Experience in working with and speaking before workers and labor leaders
  • General knowledge of the union movement, union structure, the collective bargaining process, and current issues facing unions
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and self-manage time and priorities
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout CT regularly and out of state occasionally
  • Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of union staff and elected member leaders
  • Strong listening, speaking, and writing skills
  • Automobile and valid driver’s license required

Compensation
Salary schedule and benefits set by negotiated agreement. Salary starting at $78,004-$99,523 (may be higher based on experience). Generous benefits include full family insurances, 401K (up to 16%), and paid time off.
